Opinion by Dr. Teddy Njoroge Kamau (PhD), KEN Chief Editor & International Bureau Chief

There is a war going on in Kenya between the US Ambassador and Kenya’s Members of Parliament. US Ambassador Ranneberger has been campaigning against Kenya’s elected officials. This is not the first time the current US Ambassador has acted as if he were a Kenyan citizen with the rights to participate in Kenya’s constitutional political process. During the past election, which resulted in the post-election violence, the US envoy spent a lot of money on “aid” to communities on the Coast, bribing them so that they could listen to his “idea” on who should govern Kenya. Now he is using “aid” to bribe our young people maybe even promising them visas. Parliament should investigate this guy!

If you are surprised by this, don’t be. The US government is frustrated by Kenya’s independent thinking. If it was their call, they would bring down the government so that they could have a puppet who would allow them to be, not only the sole provider of military equipment to Kenya, but control our national resources so that we, like the United States would adopt their proposed “new wave of ‘Change’”.

Given our competent and coherent constitution, we as a nation have remained firm in our emphasis on our nation’s sovereignty. We have proven over and over again that we are an independent country and that Western powers will not control our future. A year ago while in Kenya, I visited the Ministry of Defense on a business appointment. Guess who was there, Former President Bill Clinton’s Defense Secretary. His visit was aimed at influencing the Kenyan military to buy weaponry from firms that he represents. The new Secretary of State Hilary Clinton would like to see the US State Department force Kenya to adopt the new wave of pluralistic morality, allowing not only for gay marriage, but like South Africa to also adopt abortion as a means to control our population. They would also like to have Kenya be a test ground for medicines that cannot be tested in the United States because of it’s Food & Drug Administration restrictions.

If we think the American Embassy in Nairobi is there to help Kenya develop, think again! The US Embassy in Kenya promotes American interests and political agendas. Ask any Kenyan who has gone to the embassy to try to get a visa. They will tell you that the staff there treats them like garbage—poor Third-World black Africans who do not deserve any respect! Even the Kenyan government officials have been mistreated by the US Embassy in Nairobi. We as Kenyans in the Diaspora should stand up for our sovereignty. We should tell Barack Obama that he is not the president of Kenya. He is not a Kenyan citizen, therefore he cannot force his administration’s agendas on our sovereign nation and the US embassy should stop interfering with our internal affairs. Even better, we should write letters to the US State Department and Senate Foreign Affairs Committee in Washington as a protest against Ranneberger’s interference with our sovereignty.
